She has edited the Juba Monitor since 2017 — the only woman running a newspaper in South Sudan — and won the continent's editorial leadership award for it in 2019.
Anna Nimiriano is co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Juba Monitor, taking the chair in 2017 from Alfred Taban, and is South Sudan's only woman editor-in-chief.
She read community studies and rural development at the University of Juba and began reporting while still a student, writing for the Khartoum Monitor and rising to managing editor there. In 2019 she won WAN-IFRA's Women in News Editorial Leadership Award for Africa and a Courage in Journalism Award, and in 2020 Avance Media named her among the hundred most influential African women.
